Also the Olympics are our one chance to watch tons of sports we usually never care about. This is what we all want to do, be on TV and in front of huge crowds skiing for our country. It wont happen but fuck it, watch water polo and think, 'That could be me on TV competing in an obscure sport'.

Yay Tights!

The largest water ski tournament in the world for years has been the Wisconsin State Show Ski Tournament. Many people make fun of show skiers for wearing silly costumes and so on but the skiing is really cool. Plus those show skiers know how to throw a party. The CRB crew headed up to the land of cheese again this year to catch the party. Over 4,000 pulls in 4 days, that's huge, but the crowds were bigger, probably 5-7 thousand on the beach for the bigger shows.

They bring the beer in by the truck load and those cheese heads can drink. I think we are all still hungover and the Minion is possibly still in jail up there, we kinda forgot about him. No great loss though.

Show skiers use mostly outboard engines and it seems the engine of choice is the Evinrude Etec engines.  There were a couple with 3 300s on them, 900 hp...crazy.  This clip was posted by Evinrude on their facebook page.

I met Nate at a tournament last summer, dude is just as nice in person as he seems in this video. Which for a local news broadcast is very good, they actually talk about slalom and describe the sport instead of doing what most local news dipshits do which is comment about how they skied once and "it was so hard, I fell everywhere, glad my suit stayed on! giggle giggle" /suicide

One of the best TV shows on regular cable TV had its season premier last night. Breaking Bad has taken Bryan Cranston from the goofy dad in Malcom In The Middle to a murdering, drug dealing sociopath...bit of a change of direction. If you have some free time the Los Angeles Review of Books has a fantastic review on Breaking Bad.  There are only a few shows being made for TV right now that are actually worth watching; Game of Thrones, Mad Men...Yea I can't think of any others right now because every station makes complete crap and people eat it up like the abortion that is Two and a Half Men and other bullshit like that.  People keep using numbers and rankings to point out that our education system does not work when all they have to do to prove our country is falling into a pit of stupidity is turn on a TV to MTV, TLC, or any of the other stations out there actually.  Even the History Channel that was once a bastion of intelligent tv is now a quagmire of idiocy and panders to the lowest common denominator.

Some argue that Breaking Bad promotes drugs and drug dealing, but those that say that obviously have never actually watched the show as it is more a show.  So if you are going to argue that then go stick your head in a hole or watch 16 and Pregnant on MTV, those two things are equivalent.

K.C. Wilson Breaks Boys 3 Record

KC Wilson has smashed the boys 3 national record by a buoy and a half with a solid 3@41off.  Chris Parrish ran 1 1/2 @41 off at the Jacksonville Record in June of 1996, that feat was not matched again until Jon Travers tied him at the Sunset Summer Breeze in July of 2008.  Now their names will fall (if its approved) down the list as KC knocked it out of the park with this run.

In a macro view cities have some beauty to them, the buildings, the seeming unending ability of humans to build bigger and better things, the way they function.  All of that makes cities amazing, until you get in close and really look at them and realize they are hell holes.  The world is an amazing place and many of us (like me) live in places where we rarely get to see real nature.  Humans can produce amazing beauty; great buildings and skyline, amazing cars, the spray coming off a ski cranking around a buoy, a farm on rolling fields of wheat, etc, but we can not make anything that matches what the earth has been able to do on its own.

Lake Trout Carry Out

So we have slacked off for awhile on the Lake Trout but it is summertime...so stop bitching and go skiing.  Ok on to the CRB link dump.

It appears a 53 year old ski club in Australia is in a life or death battle for their site and are pitted against Emma Sheers of pro skiing fame.  Beyond what this article states I know nothing about this situation but from the sound of it the local government has screwed over the ski club and if it were  not Emma starting the ski school it would be someone else.  So don't hate on Emma.

A high school baseball star has turned down partial scholarship offers from D-1 schools to instead attend Texas State to ski.  The authors understanding of collegiate skiing is poor, but the baseball players understanding is not much better.  He calls college skiing an "individual sport" and says it has "no pressure".  F That Noize Bro, you better check yourself before you wreck yourself.  Who's got the beers?!?!  Oh...I overslept my round?  Damn...

The Tommy Bartletts Ski Show in Wisconsin celebrated its 60th anniversary recently, they are the 2nd oldest continually active ski show (that I know of).  The video on this article shows several old bartletts skiers, some in their 70s are still out skiing.

Another article with a vid I can not embed...WTH news peeps?  The Twin City River Rats of Minniapolis MN ski in the Mississippi River, which is nasty and smells like a sewer, so props to them!  The article is a series about how people stay in shape, and hell yea waterski girls have awesome bodies.

This article about an astronaut being killed on a PWC came up in a search for "Water-Ski" on google.  News agencies need to stop lumping our sport in with the idiots that race around on those damn things.  The story is sad though as it was his son on the PWC that hit and killed him.

The Junior and 17-20 year old US teams have been selected.  I could read the post and find out more info but more and more recently I feel that USAWS cares to much about international competiton and has given up pushing growth in the sport.  There will be fewer and fewer talented juniors coming up unless they get their shit together over on Holy Cow road.

A young star is on the rise in Malaysia, 8 years old and stomping the local competition.  She is on her way to France to train with the French team and compete in some international tournaments.

Kris LaPoint has been a stud in skiing for decades and he proved again this weekend why he is still a stud. He busted out a 1@41 at 59 years old. Kris is currently in Mens 5 which is 53-59 years old, he holds the Mens 5 record with 2@41. If he runs 1@41 next year he will break the current Mens 6 record by 4 1/2 buoys.
