There has been an ongoing workers strike at the American Axle company that some of you may have read about in the news. American Axle supplies axles and axle parts to General Motors, and it has affected the automotive giant enough to switch, at least for the time being, their axle supplies to rival Dana to allow them to continue building their light trucks.
However, in an odd turn of events, the American Axle strike is also affecting our prized boat companies and the boating industry as a whole.
It would seem odd, in that, boats don't have axles, but, this vital component could make your boating this summer a very difficult task.
You see, back in the glory days of worry-free boating and general financial prosperity, the major boat companies signed long-term deals with American Axle to supply them with the axles needed for the trailers that come with your fancy new boat. Now that they are on strike, the supply of axles to the companies is drying up and boats are now coming off the assembly line and put on to trailers, WITH NO AXLES!!!
The workers at the plants are now forced to drag these boats around on trailers with NO WHEELS!! The sound of scraping metal and fiberglass on the concrete is akin to fingernails on a chalkboard. Its a terrible situation and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.
